Laurie Lamson’s short story Compliance Department was a fourth place winner in the Phyllis Scott Writing Contest, and was recently published in All in the GameĀ & Other Short Stories.
Compliance Department is a a 17-page humorous corporate mystery Laurie wrote several years ago, inspired by her imagination running wild when she had a temp job at a New York broker/dealer.
The story is told from the point of view of a bored woman who runs the Compliance Department of a broker/dealer and ‘vulture’ investment fund.
She worries about the boss seducing her secretary, but the innocent-looking secretary is actually an undercover SEC agent investigating the boss for fraud and unethical business practices, who forces her to make a tough choice between job loyalty and ‘doing the right thing’.
